Both the reading passage and the lecture discuss applications of the carved stone balls that date from the late Neolithic period. With this in mind, the reading states that although there is disagreement between archaeologists about the purpose and meaning of the carved stone balls, there are several theories. On the other hand, the lecture refutes all the three episodes mentioned in the text material and believing that, none of those theories are very convincing.
First, the author explains that the first hypothesis is that the carved stone balls were used as weapons for hunting or fighting. Conversely, the lecturer makes it clear that some of founded stone balls have cracks in their surface but the other are very well preserved. Therefore, it dosen't seem that they used as weapons.
Secondly, the writer put forth the idea of using stone balls as a part of weights and measures primitive system due to their roughly uniform size. However, the professor points out that, although the stone balls have uniform in size, their mass are different. she continues that different types of the stone balls have different mass because they were used with different type of stones.
Finally, while the reading selection argues that it is likely that the stone balls have been served as social marker because they designed, the speaker contradicts this theory. The speaker holds the view that some of the balls have intricated patern while other are very simple so, they couldn't be used as social purpose. Moreover, she says that ancient people put valuable things in the grave but none of the balls have been found in grave or such places. So, it is unlikely that the stone balls had social status purpose.
