TPO-33 - Integrated Writing Task Carved stone balls are a curious type of artifact found at a number of locations in Scotland. They date from the late Neolithic period, around 4,000 years ago. They are round in shape; they were carved from several types o

The reading and the lecture are both about the carved stone balls that are found in Scotland. The author of the reading states about the importance of stone balls also mentions there are several theories, and provides three reasons for support. However, the lecturer refutes by saying none of the claims are convincing.

First, the article claims that craved stone balls are used as a weapon by holes and grooves around the balls. However, the lecturer refutes this point by saying that these balls generate signs of awareness and use. Furthermore, he mentions these cracked stone balls are used to process the surface.

Second, the reading explains that the stone balls are used to measure the weights of grains and the other food as they were uniform in size at 70mm in diameter. Nevertheless, the professor refutes this point by explaining that stone balls are made with different types like sand, cream or quartz. Similarly, they have different density. Hence, they cannot be used as the weighing systems.

Third, the text explains that the stone balls server as a social status of their owners because they have elaborate designs. However, the professor opposes this point by saying that stone balls are inconsistent and have different patterns like complex and simple patterns. In addition, if the famous or high ranked persons die, they are kept in tombs or graves. where they cannot be used as social status symbols.
