TPO 33 task 1

The reading states that there are some theories about the purpose of carved stone balls and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor states that none of the article's reasons are convincing and she refutes each of them.

First, the article states that carved stone balls were weapons. The lecture refutes this point by explaining that none of the signs that stone balls might be used as weapons were found on the carved stone balls. there must be cracked stones or stones that broken apart into pieces but all of these stones are well preserved in good shapes and there is no damage.

Second, the author asserts that carved stone balls were used as part of a system of weights and measures. The professor counters this by telling us that although carved stone balls shapes were similar the measures were different. and she mentions that same ball of feather and rock aren't equal in weight.

Third, the reading claims that carved stone balls served a social purpose as opposed to the practical one. In opposition, the professor states that it is very unlikely that these balls were for a social aim because the signs are too simple and if this was true it must be found in some graves that people were buried with their possessions.
