TPO 40

Addressing the issue of landing human being on the surface of Venus, the reading brings up three different obstacles on the way of this plan. The professor, on the other hand, claims that by constructing a floating station in Venus's atmosphere rather than its surface, 50 kilometers above its surface, all of these problems would easily solve.
The first problem the reading discusses is the higher pressure of Venus's surface compared to earth's pressure which is approximately 90 times bigger than the earth's pressure. This, in turn, would crash every single object landed on the Venus. Due to the physical law of pressure which says by increasing the elevation, the pressure will decrease, the professor states that in the floating station, the pressure is exactly equal to the pressure we experience on the earth which is suitable and tolerable for all objects including human being.
Since there are not any sources of water on Venus's surface, nor are there any molecules of water vapor and oxygen in its atmosphere, Venus's atmospheric components including carbon dioxide, sulfuric acid, and nitrogen, the reading insists on the impossibility of landing on Venus while human being needs oxygen to survive. Referring to chemical reactions making it possible to produce oxygen from sulfuric acid and carbon dioxide, the professor refutes this impediment as well.
Finally, the passage explains that the high percentage of sunlight, around 60 percent, are reflected by the thick clouds of Venus, and even the reached sunlight to the surface is again reflected by the second carbon dioxide layer. Although the professor admits this point, he points out it would not the problem of a floating station since its residents would receive more than 40 percent of sunlight because of their location above a part of these thick clouds. In addition to collecting direct sunlight, spacemen can accumulate reflected rays from clouds and in turn produce electricity for their technical staffs.
