The passage explains that venus is not suitable for permanent human station providing three reasons. In contrast, the lecture supports an idea of permanent station above 50 kilometres above the surface.
Firstly, the passage claims that the atmospheric pressure of venus is 90 times more than the earth's surface because of which all spacecrafts landing on its surface crash within an hour of landing. Despite the higher pressure on the surface, the lecture argues that above 50km of the surface, any station can be flown without any danger of crashing. This is because above 50km height, the atmospheric pressure of venus is somewhat like earth's surface.
Secondly, the passage lists out the gases available in the atmosphere of venus surface such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen and sulfuric acid whereas oxygen and water vapour is rarely found. Due to the absence of oxygen and water reservoir, it is way impossible to establish the permanent station. However, the lecture suggests that the required amount of oxygen and water could be produced from the compounds available in the atmosphere of venus. Thus, this could shore up the possibility of human station.
Thirdly, little sunlight on the venus surface has caused problem to create station according to the passage. In the passage, it is said that only 40% of sunlight gets into the surface, while remaining 60% of sunlight is reflected back from the surface by the dense clouds of carbon dioxide. Inspite of little sunlight, the lecture claims that considerable amount of sunlight is filtered above 50km of the surface. Even though, there is presence of clouds above 50km, sufficient sunlight would be filtered and would charge the solar power cells. Therefore, enough electricity would be produced which is applicable for the station.
