According to the given set of the reading passage, it is the author's conviction that the power companies do not required to dispose of coal ash, which is a detrimental chemical for the environment, owing to the several highlighted reasons. However, the lecturer casts doubt on this justification and refutes each of the author's specific point by providing some counter-arguments that are as follows:
First of all, the reading holds the view that the regulations are existed. On the contrary, the lecturer asserts that the liner, which used by companies in order to prevent the soil contamination is not sufficient. In other words, the companies add the liner for just new established landfills. While all landfills require this special material. For instance, some ponds have encountered several damages such as pollution of water.
Secondly, although the author posits that disposing coal ash will have a bad influence on recycled products and as a result, people will not buy the products, the lecture finds this reason unconvincing by exemplifying the Mercury, which is required a very special storing and handling, have recycled safely and have not created any significant concern on people. Hence, these new regulations will not effect on these products as well.
As the last point to emphasize the reading claim, the author says that new strikes will lead to a huge increase in the costs of the company and the price of electricity will be intensified subsequently. Yet again. the lecturer stated on the opposite side and contradicts that it is true that the company will be faced with a high cost problem virtually 15 billion dollars, But mathematical analysis shows the household electricity will be increased merely 1 percent, which is not a big price for the general public.
