In the reading, the author presents 3 solutions to prevent birds from injuries when they try to fly through glass windows. However, finding all solutions questionable and ineffective, the lecturer totally repudiates them and presents some evidence to the contrary.
At first, the author argues that one-way glass is a practical approach to prevent injuries to birds since they cannot see through a window and so will not try to pass through it. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that this solution still has a problem. The reflexing light from the surface of these one-way makes them look like mirrors. Owing to the fact that outside birds cannot recognize mirror too, they probably still hurt themselves, Especially when the glass reflex the image of sky or tree. In this case, the birds think there are sky or trees in front of them.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that painting regular window glass with colorful lines and designs can make birds avoid trying to fly through it. Moreover, architects can benefit from this approach by including these designs in their works. That being said, the lecturer disputes it by clarifying the fact that birds perceive the openings made between the lines as open holes; thus, they would try to fly through them. Should the space between the lines and designs become smaller, the room will be dark since there is no enough space for passing the lights.
Finally, the author draws attention to creation an artificial magnetic field to guide birds away from glass as the last solution to prevent birds from hurts. Yet again, the lecturer dismisses it by pointing out that it is true that birds have a natural ability to sense magnetic but they only use this ability for far distances such as migrating from northern hemisphere to south or vice versa. For short distances, they rely on their eyes and the brightness of their surrounding areas.
