TPO 42 Integrated Writing Task

Both the passage and the lecture discuss the decline in the frog population and its consequences for the ecosystem in recent years. The author proposes several solutions to this problem. On the other hand, the professor argues that those solutions are not practical, and each has problems.
First, The reading states that farmers use pesticides to protect their crops from insects, and those pesticides will wash down to frog habitats and kill them. There should be stricter rules for the application of those chemicals. Nevertheless, the lecturer rejects this view and illustrates that enacting stricter rules is not practical or fair. She states that farmers use those pesticides to decrease crop damage and compete with other farmers. If the government put strict regulations, those farmers have fewer crops than those in other regions.
Second, the article claims that because of the spread of a fungus, the skin of frogs thickens, and they die for dehydration. They should use treatments to destroy that fungus on a large scale and protect the frog population. Nonetheless, the professor denies this idea and states that this method should be applied to each frog, which is a problem. She mentions that it is very difficult to capture and treat every infected frog. Also, they cannot prevent frogs from passing this fungus to their offspring. She explains that this method is very complicated and expensive.
Finally, the author mentions that frogs depend on water and wetland habitats. These habitats are endangered by excessive water use or draining as a result of human activities. However, the speaker refutes it, saying that prohibiting people from excessive water use will not save the frog population. She explains that in recent decades, the real threat for water and wetland habitats is Global Warming.
