TPO-45 - Integrated Writing Task Any student of paleontology will be struck by the fact that a great many animals of the past were considerably larger than they are today. This holds true for species ranging from dinosaurs to most mammals. Just why they w

the article talks about three theories which state that why early animals were larger than what they are today.it claims that lots of oxygen, vast of plant species and warmer weather in the early earth, are the reasons. However, the professor rejects each reason by providing his own reasons and he states that none of them aren't convincing.

First, the passage claims that in the past earth has a great supply of oxygen rather than today, therefore, it's animal was larger. the professor opposes this idea by saying that as some natural events like volcano were more usual than today, as it produces lots of toxic gases the oxygen supply were less than today. even though larger animals couldn't breathe. hence, this reason doesn't make sense.

Second, the reading states that on early earth there is lots of vast plant with high nutrient which help the animal to grow. but the professor refutes this idea by saying that, although there were vast plants they didn't nutritious enough. he continues that evidence in fossils show that they were lack of nutrients and they relied on Co2 but as the weather was contaminated at that time, it wasn't enough for them.

Third, the article says that warmer weather that early climate had, led to size increase of animals.in contrary, the professor states that small animals can stand better than large animals in warm weather. because large animals in order too cool their body, need to spend lots of energy that means to consume a lot of food, which wasn't enough at that time. thus warm weather is disadvantageous for large bodies and this idea doesn't make sense.
