The reading and lecture both discuss if the bees exist on the earth 200 million years ago or not. While the reading states that this nest could not be related to the bees from 200 million years, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing.

Firstly, the reading states that we could not find any fossil back to 200 millions years. In fact the fossil that we found back only 100 years. However, the professor argues this notion by saying that the trees that found in Arizona might be could not have the sticky materials that preserve the bees. As a result, the bee nest did not found in that trees. So, it does not mean that there is no bees' nest exist since 200 million years ago.

In addition, the article avers that they could not find flowering plants in that area. Moreover, the flowering and bees should be too close. On the other hand, the professor refutes this idea by explaining that the flowering plants could be existed on earth later on. So, many bees were eating other plants like pine tree. Furthermore, after the flowering plants existance on earth, the bees adapted to feed on them.

Lastly, the article mentions that the fossils that found in Arizona missing many important characters of bees. Such as, these fossils missed the nest caps. Nevertheless, the professor questions this idea by pointing out that there were many chemical evidance to support that these fossils are related to the bees. the chemical analysis of the fossils ensure the presence of water that used by the modern bees.
