TPO-49 - Integrated Writing Task Like many creatures, humpback whales migrate long distances for feeding and mating purposes. How animals manage to migrate long distances is often puzzling. In the case of humpback whales, we may have found the answer: the

Both the reading and the lecture discuss how humpback whales manage to migrate long distance. The reading passage offers three possible explanations. However, the professor disputes with these explanations and provides other reasons as below.

To begin with, the passage indicates that because the humpback whales are very clever so they are capable of using stars to navigate. On the contrary, the professor disagrees with the theory by pointing out that there isn't a direct connection between intelligence and navigation by stars. Besides, the ducks, average of intelligence, still utilize stars as a navigation tool. Therefore, the theory seems not convincing.

Second, the article suggests that the humpback whales migrate in straight lines, relying on stars. Once again, the speaker highly debates the hypothesis and proposes that actually they have a special organ to sense the earth magnetic field called biometric. Furthermore, this fundamental material can help the whales find the route when they migrate long distance. Hence, the humpback whales unable to migrate by stars.

All in all, the reading passage illustrates that whales have a special skill, rare in other animals, named spy-hopping to navigate. Nevertheless, the lecturer calls the explanation into question by challenging that even though this behavior seldom occurs, there is still a kind of shark own this behavior to search their prey. That is, sharks use sky-hopping to capture food instead of migration. Apparently, humpback whales might not use this skill to migrate.
