TPO 52- Asteroids are large space objects made of rock and ice. There are hundreds of thousands of asteroids in our solar system. Though we often hear ideas about establishing colonies of humans to live and work on our Moon or our neighboring planet, Mars

The reading passage reveals that there are three reasons for humans to establish colonies on asteroids. However, the speaker does not agree with the perspectives presented in the reading passage.

First of all, the author considers that asteroids have lower gravity due to their size compared to planets, which leads to the safer approach to land on asteroids and the more possible way to carry more equipment to set up the colony. On top of that, the speaker states that lower gravity would cause those who land on the asteroids to lose strengths of muscle and bones. Therefore, it is not a practical way to carry out.

Second, the authors thinks that some asteroids are abundant in valuable rare metals that are profitable and can be a good source of these raw materials. In addition, the speaker contends that it is not a whole picture of mining valuable metals from asteroids. He says that the author does not consider the cost of transporting the metals back to Earth. Furthermore, if the metals was taken back to Earth, it would contribute the price of the metals to decrease because of the large quantity of metals coming out to the market.

Third, the author believes that some of asteroids are easier to each and more affordable than the Moon or Mars. Nevertheless, the speakers mentions that asteroids may move away from the original place, which lets the returning distance be longer.

In conclusion, opinions from the author and the speaker are extremely different.
