tpo 60 Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific theories mentioned in the reading passage

In this set of materials, both the reading and the lecturer discuss the illegal hunting of rhinoceroses for selling their horns; as a result, the rhinoceroses become extinct. Although the passage provides three theories for preventing the illegally hunting of rhinoceroses, the speaker refutes all of the arguments described in this report.

To start off, the passage points out that if the horns of rhinoceros are removed, this animal would not attract the poachers; hence, they may not hunt them. The lecturer, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that this is not a practical solution because people must find all of them and remove their horns. She adds that if their horns are removed, the rhinoceroses will face many problems. They use the horns for many purposes such as digging holes for finding water, breaking the branch of trees for finding food, and protecting their children and tetrapods. So, without horns, their life becomes arduous for them.

Going through the next approach, the reading passage states that the public believes the horns have health benefits, but this belief has no scientific foundation, so it can be changed. The professor argues that these ideas have a strong cultural background, and people believe that the horns have a strong healing power derived from their ancestors. Therefore, these beliefs are strong and old; hence, the new science foundation cannot change these ideas.

Finally, the passage says that the government can sell all the horns taken from poachers at low prices; therefore, rhino poaching may not be profitable. The speaker disagrees by mentioning that most people would not buy the horns if they are illegal. However, when the government start to sell the horns, these people will buy them. She explains that the demand might grow dramatically, and creates a much larger market for the horns. Also, scientists believe that the larger demand would increase the price of the horns, so the poaching is enhanced, and it becomes more attractive for them.
