TPO 47 - Integrated Writing Task
In this set materials, the reading passage state that Pterosaurs would not be able to fly, and brings several reasons such as being cold-blooded, having high weight and having a week back leg muscles for claiming. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading points by providing different reasons (and examples).
First of all, the reading passage indicates that the Pterosaurs were cold-blooded; thus, they had a low metabolism rate and could not have enough energy for flight. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that fossils of the Pterosaurs have shown that Pterosaurs had dense hair cover or feathers. As we know, only warm-blooded animals have a feather on their body for preventing loos their body temperatures in cold weather. Therefore, the Pterosaurs were warm-blooded; hence, they had enough energy and high metabolism rate for flying.
Second, the reading passage argues that the Pterosaurs had a high weight; therefore, they would not be able to flight; conversely, what the speaker believes is different. She points that anatomy of the Pterosaurs shows some hollow in their bone. These hollow make their weigh become light. Also, their weight is low comparison their size. Hence, they had not a problem with their weight.
Finally, according to the reading, the Pterosaurs had week muscles for taking off comparison birds that have strong muscles. However, the professor claims that birds and Pterosaurs have different. Birds only use two limbs for jumping and taking off. But, the Pterosaurs used 4 legs and limbs for taking off and jumping not used only 2 back legs. Thus, the Pterosaurs had the ability to push the earth and jumping or taking off.
