The reading and the lecture both discuss noisy sound under water in the North Alantic and Arctic Ocean. On the one hand, the reading clearly state that there are many theories about the source of the unusual sounds. On the other hand the lecture argues these theories.

First of all, the article claims that the strange voice comes from male whales to attract the female whales. However, the lecture refutes that the whales live in the surface of the water and the sound come from the deep water it is not likely to be the source of the voice.

In addition, the reading makes argument is that the sound comes from marine invertebrates it called Giant squids and this animals very smart and can emit the sound. The lecture argues this point by stating that the first sound was in 1960s and disappeared after the 1980s, and there is not reason to stop hearing the sound for one decade and return hearing it after 20 years.

Lastly, the reading passages argues that there is military technology and it is the cause of the sound. The lecture counter this claims by pointing out that it is hard to build engine very fast and without sound , or to build silent engine.
