TPO_44: Integrated: Norse coins

Based on the given materials, the article as well as the lecture discusses silver coins which were founded at a Native American site in Maine state of US. There are several opinions about how the coins existed there; some people believe that the coins transferred to this area by European explorers, named Norse, who had had close relationships with native Americans. The author states that there are several reasons why some archaeologists claim that mentioned coins are not genuine historical evidence. That being said, the lecturer provides several ideas to repudiate this claim.
Initially, the author says that the distance between Native Americans site, where the coin had been discovered, and Norse sites is so large to exist any possibility for connection between Norse and those Native mans. However, the lecturer explains that since Native Americans in Maine site travelled to North America, they may obtain some objects from faraway places. So, Native Americans could have reached the Norse settlements and brought back these coins.
Second, the writer proclaims that there were no other coins at the Canadian sites, which were inhabited by Norse mans, so, there is not any possibility for bringing any silver coin by the Norse. Yet again, the speaker underscores that the Norse did not have permanent settlements in North America, and they travelled a lot among Europe. As they picked up valuable objects for returning to America, they may drop all their silver coins there.
The final contention between the reading and the listening passage is valuation of silver coins in North America. The author thinks that native North Americans were not aware of silver coins' value and never did they rely on the coins as money. On the other hand, the speaker explains that the Norse did know that native Americans valued strange or appealing objects, and these silver coins would be attractive to them, because of using in jewelry industries such as neckless and so on. So, the native North Americans used the coins as well as some attractive objects, while the Norse reached their purpose, which was trading with the coins.
