In the United States, medical information about patients traditionally has been recorded and stored on paper forms. However, there are efforts to persuade doctors to adopt electronic medical record systems in which information about patients is stored in

The article states that storing patients' medical records in electronic databases has several benefits over the traditional paper-based storing system and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecture explains that it is very uncertainly and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading claims that storing records in electronic databases will reduce costs by saving money and spaces. The lecture refutes this point by stating that it has unlikely significance as stated in the article. Actually, there will be no saving. Because the doctors who are also adopted with electronic storing will not throw the paper. They will keep paper records as a backup. Paper-based records can be used for signature verifications. So, doctors need to pay for storing the paper-based backup.

Second, the article posits that electronic medical records are crucial to reducing the chance of medical errors. However, the lecture contends that it can not eliminate the chance of medicals errors. Doctors use pen and paper to see patients and also write the prescribe by hand. Normally, medical records are keeping in the electronic database later from papers by assistants. So, there is a chance to error to put error data for poor handwriting.

Third, the reading avers that this will help to aid research. The lecture opposes this point but saying that it will not beneficial for research. In USA medical policies it is too difficult to access medical records databases. There are strict policies to confide the patient's data. So, if someone wants to get a permit to acess database, he has to go through with some complex procedures. For this, permission can not be granted. On the other hand, a patient can also block the pass of the database so that no one can access their medical records.
