TOEFL SPEAKING TASK 4: CONTRAST EFFECT
CONTRAST EFFECT: People will compare things with what they are familiar with instead of the quality or features of the thing.
LECTURE: There was once I wanted to rent a house in my college days. And I went to see several houses. The first house I saw was small and crap and I couldn’t stand it, so I went for the second house. The second house was bigger and nicer than the first house I saw, then I decided to rent it without second thought. However, after I moved into that house, I realized that the house was still not big enough for some of my furnitures. And some things in the house was old and even out of use. Because I just compared the second house to the first one when I made my decision on renting that house, I got a house that was actually not so good for me. I should have go to see more houses and took more time to make my decision.
