Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth century Dutch painters However there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him One such painting is known as attributed to Rembrandt because of its style and inde

Both the passage and the lecture are about real origins of a specific painting, Portrait of Elderly Woman. The passage states that the artwork is misattributed to Rembrandt, whereas the lecture saggests that the painting is indeed done by Rembrandt. The lecture casts doubt on the main points made in the passage by providing the following reasons.

First of all, in the passage the author begins by stating that there is significant oddity in the dressing of the woman featured. The author adds how the cap resembels poverty and the fur coat shows luxury. However, the lecturer disputes this point by saying that the fur color is not original. Furthurmore, the lecturer mentions that the fake color was perhaps added over the top by someone who whished to make the painting more valuable, a hundred years later.

Secondly, according to the passage the embryonic shadowing of the painting is another evidence of how the painting can not possibly be done by Rembrandt, since he was very skilled in painting light and shadow. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this by arguing that again, it was the unoriginal color coating of the fur which was causing trouble. In addition, the lecturer points out that after removing the fur color, it was revealed that the woman was wearing light color clothing which illuminates her face, and the painting looked very realistic after all.

Finally, the passage claims that the painting pannel is made of several pieces of wood glued together which is another reason why the painting can not be original. On the other hand, the lecturer believes that for reasones similar to why there is a top layer of color, the painting has been enlarged by gluing additional pieces of wood to sides in order to make it more valuable. Moreover she adds that there has been other paintings of Rembrandt found on the same wood material as the one used for Portrait of an Elderly Woman. People today spend a lot of time with their friends, and whether they rather invest their time in making new friends or keeping the older ones depends on thier personality and enviroment. In my opinion, it is more important and beneficial to keep your old friends. I feel this way for two reasons which I will explore in this essay.
