Bioluminescence
Bioluminescence occurs when organisms convert chemical energy into visible light. This happens when a chemical reaction involving oxygen and two other molecules takes place. During this reaction, light of varying colors may be emitted. The great majority of organisms that use bio-luminescence are found deep in the oceans depths. This ability to produce light serves a variety of functions. Organisms may use it to do anything from escape their predators to find food.
