Bioluminescence
Bioluminescence occurs when organisms convert chemical energy into visible light. This happens when a chemical reaction involving oxygen and two other molecules takes place. During this reaction, light of varying colors may be emitted. The great majority of organisms that use bioluminescence are found deep in the oceans depths. This ability to produce light serves a variety of functions. Organisms may use it to do anything from escape their predators to find food.
