Now teachers tend to assign group assignments instead of individual assignments. Talk about one advantage and one disadvantage of doing so.

Nowadays, teaching methods are mostly based on group assignments.
As an advantage of it, students are made to be more social. For instance, my younger brother was a shy person. However, when he attended university. His teachers mainly graded the students based on group projects. So, my brother had to interact with his classmates in order to success. As a result, he becomes a social person who can work with others easily.
On the other hand, group work might make students to be dependent. For example, when I was a junior student at university, I used to do my projects with my classmates and count on them. After a while I was totally a dependent person who couldn’t do his tasks by himself.
