The reading and the lecture are both about The Little Ice Age which attributes in hard weather and increase in glaciers. More specifically, in regard to the passage, the writer presents three theories about what isare the reasons for this phenomenon on the earth. The lecturer disputes the claims made in the article. His position is that unfortunatily these reasone are little dated and there are new information could account for these claims.
First and foremost, the author of the reading states increase temperature before the ice age led to melt the glaciers, which assisted to move it ti the Gulf Stream. The article mentions that these currents affected the earth's climate by decreasing the temperature. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that these currents which trnsfered th Gulf stream could affect Europe and North America, but not other places. Additionally, he points out that Africa and Newzyland also have affected by ice ages not because this theory, so what is the reason for the other continents.
Secondly, the author suggests that volcanic eruptions caused unleash dust and other gases to the air which makes the sun invisible. In the article it is said that absense of sun lights caused decrease in the temperature. Again, the speaker specifically addresses this point when he states these eruptions from volcanics are not enough to cool down the climate. He goes on to say that it must be some visual effects on earth like change snow's color from white to gray or brown, but no reports about these occurances had been submitted.
Finally, the author brings his argument to a close by suggesting that decline people numbers in the world assist to this theory because this helps in increase trees in forests which led to absorb carbon dioxide and make the earth cooler. Not surprisingly, the professor takes issue with this claim by contending that this period was not long enough to cause all these changes in greenhouse gases. He notes that people fastly back to cut trees to feed their population.
