7. The graph below shows trends in US meat and poultry consumption.
The line graph gives information about the amount of meat and poultry in four instinct groups consumed in America for per capita over the year from 1955 to 2012.
It is noticeable that beef was the most popular product in 1955 while broilers owned the highest products by 2012. Except for the consumption for broilers which increased dramatically, those for the other three categories remained relatively stable over the period shown.
In 1955, people in the US bought 60 pounds of beef and 50 pounds of pork on average. Then, the demands for beef was generally increasing till 1976 and kept dropping after that, with the average consumption of 50 pounds in 2012. Pork consummation, experiencing the lowest point in 1975 (50 pounds), decreased slightly in 2012 with a fall of 8 pounds for per person.
We can see that there was no information recorded before 1961 for broilers and turkey. From 1961, broilers started becoming accepted by people, consumed from only 15 pounds to 55 pounds for per person, with a peak in 2008 (60 pounds per capita). Over the 51-year period, single American’s needs for turkey in the US stayed the same with a little rise from 5 to 11 pounds.
