The first bar chart illustrates the number of marriages and divorces in the USA between 1970 and 2000. And the second chart shows the proportion of the marital status of adult Americans over the same period as mentioned.
Overall, the trend of marriages declined and the divorce rate witnessed a mild fluctuation throughout the term in the first chart. However, in the second chart, married people surpassed the other statuses even though there was a drop in the percentage of wedded folks in the subsequent years.
As regards the first chart, while marriages went unaltered at 2.5 million from 1970 to 1980, the similar interval witnessed a gradual climb from 1 to 1.4 million for divorces. But in the following years, there was a steady drop in the marriages from 2.5 million to finish the span at 2 million. Divorces likewise experienced a similar direction, falling evenly from 1.4 million to 1 million in the final year.
Regarding the final chart, beginning at 70% in 1970, married people fell to just under 60% in 2000, which was still the highest figure, compared to the others. Next, never married ballooned to 20% in 2000, being slightly higher than the original amount at around 16% in 1970. On the other hand, widowed and divorced existed just under 10%.
