The bar chart compares the gender balance of students who researched under various disciplines in a US university in 2011.
As shown from the information provided, natural science was in the dominant position regarding total number of research students in the US university in 2011, whereby the male and female students were practically identical at 200. Likewise, 200 male researchers studied in Psychology, slightly exceeding their female counterparts. By contrast, Linguistics was the only discipline with more girls, despite the fact that the number of its female researchers was half of that of Natural Science.
In stark contrast, Mathematics, however, witness the greatest disparity between both sexes in 2011. There were 200 male researchers under this discipline, enormously overtaking their female counters, which registered less than 50. In fact, the phenomenon of having doubled male research students were seen in Engineering and Programming too.
Overall, in comparison to female students, male students dominated in most departments in 2011 in terms of quantity.
