Overall, handheld games accounted for the highest revenue over the period. In addition, sales of games played online or on mobile phones increased steadily throughout the period, whereas sales of console games declined.
Online and mobile phone games did not account for any sales in 2000. However, in 2001, sales of online games appeared and increased year after year, accounting for about 9 billion dollars in 2006. Similarly, games for mobile phones started to be sold in 2002, and the sales increased, totalling about 7 billion dollars in 2006.
Regarding handheld and console games, in 2001, the sales of these products were significant, with handheld games sold twice as much than the ones for console. However, while handheld games' sales soared and reached almost 18 billion dollars in 2006, sales of console games were declining slightly but steadily over the period, from 6 billion dollars in 2000 to 3 billions of dollars in 2006.
