The chart below shows the movement of people from rural to urban areas in three countries and predictions for future years.
The line graph depicts the number of people migrating from the countryside to cities in three different countries over the period from 2000 to 2025, including future predictions.
Overall, it can be seen that the shift from rural communities towards urban metropolitan areas experience an upward trend.
At the begining of the period, all three countries see similar numbers of urban migrants. Russia starts with the most migrants (around 15 million) and over the period sees significant increases, particularly between 2010 and 2015 (around 42 to 70 million). This number of immigrants is predicted to rise until reaching approximately 86 million by 2025. Similarly, Iran after a slow start between 2000 and 2005 witnesses a sharp increase in urban migration, and after 2015 is predicte to see an even more dramatic rise, surpassing Russia’s figures in 2020 and peakking at around 95 million by 2025.
It is worth noticing that Indonesia undergoes the same trend but on a smaller scale. Despite going steadily between 2000 and 2020, its growth is far less staggering than the other two countries (10 to 30 million). Furthermore, after 2020, the figure of Indonesia immigrants is projected to level off at around 30 million.
