The chart below shows numbers of incidents and injuries per 100 million passenger miles travelled (PMT) by transportation type in 2002

The bar chart compares the data about incidents and injuries per 100 million PMT caused by five means of transportation in 2002.

It is evident from the chart given that overall while the number of injuries seemed to be smaller than that of incidents, the figures for demand response were considerably higher than others. Furthermore, the biggest gap between incidents and injuries was also seen in demand response.

The number of incidents and injuries per 100 million passenger miles travelled by commuter rail were only 20 and 17, respectively, which were by far the smallest numbers, compared to other means. The figures for heavy rail were much higher (51 incidents and 35 injuries per 100 million PMT). Demand response, on the other hand, witnessed the significantly highest number of injuries (173) and incidents (225) in the year surveyed.

Light rail and bus, in contrast, experienced the same figures for incidents, which was 76 per 100 million PMT, wheareas the number of injuries caused by bus was much higher than that of light rail (66 vs. 39 per 100 million PMT)
