The chart below shows numbers of incidents and injuries per 100 million passenger miles travelled (PMT) by transportation type in 2002.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The provided bar graph gives information about the number of accidents and injuries by five different modes of transportation in 2002. Numbers are given per 100 million PMT (passenger miles traveled).

Overall, it can be seen that the highest number of both accidents and injuries happened due to demand-response; however, the commuter-rail was the safest mode of transportation.

In terms of safety, commuter-rail was the most benign means of traveling with almost 20 cases of accident occurred and out of those only up to 15 got injured per 100 million PMT while demand-response was the most malignant mode of transport with above 250 units in accidents and roughly 75 % of them got injured.

Interestingly, the accident data for both light-rail and bus was the same (75 per 100 million PMT) while the injuries caused by bus accidents were a way higher than that of light-rail one’s (90% and 50% respectively). On the other hand, heavy-rail was the second safest option for traveling with 50 incidents and two-thirds of those had injury per 100 million PMT.
