The bar chart provides information about proportion of households owned and rented in England and Wales over almost a century from 1918 to 2011.
In the beginning of the period, only just above 20% households were owned while more than three quarters were rented in 1918, which contributes the biggest difference in the chart. After that, the percentage of owning households increased slowly until 1971, when it reached the same percentage of renting which showed a falling trend since 1918, at exactly 50%.
The percentage of households in owned accomodation kept growing and reached its peak at alomost 70% in 2001, followed by a tiny decrease at the end of the period.
On the contrary, the late 40 years witnessed an obvious decreasing trend of renting households, which dipped to its lowest point at about 30% in 2001,and it grew by around 5% in 2001.
Overall, during the period given, there was a noticeable growing trend for owning households and dramatic dropping percentage in renting ones.
