The diagram shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity

This diagram demonstrates the process of how to produce electricity with geothermal energy. There are five steps in total and some equipments are needed during the operation.

In the beginning, cold water is pumped down through a pipe of 4.5 km long straight down to the underground to the injection well. Then, the water goes through a so-called geothermal zone, which consists of hot rocks. Next, it reaches the production well. The water which has become hot is pumped up to the ground again afterwords.

After all the procedures underground are completed, the pumped hot water is transformed into steam in a condenser, and the steam is utilized as power to rotate a turbin to rotate. In the final stage, the power produced from turbine will be used in a generator to produce electicity finally ready for the power plant to use.

Overall, as is shown in the diagram, the process of producing electricity contains both underground and upground productions.
