During the whole period, it is clear that the main trend of proportion of households in owned accommodation is increase while it is an opposite trend with the percentage of households in rented accommodation.
In 1918, the number of families with owned a house was lowest with just more than 20% a bit then increased continuously to reach a peak of nearly 70% in 2001 before dropping by 5% in 2011.
By contrast, families renting accommodation accounted for just over 75%, triple that of owned accommodation. The figure dropped dramatically to about 32% in 2001, followed by a slight rise with 5% in 2011. Additionally, the percentage of families renting a house and owning one were identical with the same 50% in 1971.
