The chart shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011
The bar chart illustrates the housing accommodation for almost hundred years in the European nations: Wales and England. This data is presented in the form of percentage of households rented and owned.
Overall, 1971 is the only year when the rented and owned households are equal to each other. However, the general trend demonstrates that the percentage of rented accommodations gradually decreased when compared to the owned households which showed a consistent rise in its numbers.
In an initial analysis, the percentage of residents in rented quarters during the initial years was higher than the owned shelters by at least 18%. The year 1916 performed poorly in owned households but then augmented steadily in the later years reaching 50% in 1971.
After 1971, clearly the trend of renting the accommodation started to decline and reached the lowest point in 2001 amounting to approximately 31% of the households. During the period 1981-2011, the difference between rented and owned quarters increased with owned accommodations taking the lead.
