The given pie charts illustrate the proportions on average in the American’s daily meals of three distinctive categories of nutrients namely sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar, which has a negative impact on people’s health if overeaten.
Overall, while food containing sodium and saturated fat is mostly consumed at dinner time, people in the USA eat a large amount of food added sugar in snacks. Another striking feature is that in breakfast, the percentages of these nutrients are all the lowest.
In snacks, citizens in America have a tendency to eat less sodium and saturated, whose proportions are 14% and 21% relatively, than added sugar, which accounts for the largest percentage (nearly a half). However, the percentage of added sugar consumed in dinner is about a quarter which is lower than the other two kinds of nutrients.
Besides, American’s consumption of added sugar comprises the smallest proportion (less than a fifth) at lunchtime, which is quite similar to that in dinner. Moreover, in breakfast, the figures for saturated and added sugar are equivalent at 16% whilst sodium makes up the smallest proportion at 14%.
