the charts below show the average percentages in typical meals of the types of nutrients, all of which may be unhealthy if eaten too much.

The chart compares the proportion of sodium, saturated fat and added sugar in various meals.

Clearly, most of the sodium and saturated fat is taken through dinners in USA. Whereas, snacks consist a high amount of sugar.

Firstly, the primary source of sodium for people in USA is dinner as more than 2-5th of it is consumed while having dinner. After dinner comes lunch which provides around 30% of the overall sodium component. Nonetheless, a very little (i.e. 14%) is supplemented from snacks and breakfast.

Similar to sodium, a high amount of saturated fats, close to 40%, can be obtained from dinner. Here, lunch and snacks account for almost half of the overall share and breakfast adds 16% fats to the body.

On the other hand, snacks have a large percentage of sugar content (i.e. 42%) followed by dinner with nearly 1/5 th of the total proportion. Breakfast and lunch make up around 35% of average sugar consumed. With lunch having a slightly more contribution than breakfast.
