The charts below show what percentage of their daily intake of various nutrients the average person in the USA consumes in each meal and in snacks These nutrients may be unhealthy if eaten too much

The chart compares different proportions of nutrients, which would be harmful when over consuming, contained in 4 particular daily meals of Americans.

Overall, dinner consisted of the highest rate of sodium and saturated fat, whereas sugar was added mostly in snacks. It is also apparent that breakfast could be healthier than the others since it comprised the smallest percentage of these three nutrients.

Regarding breakfast, it contained a relatively low level of sodium, saturated fat and added sugar, hovering around 14-16% of the total. The proportion of sodium eaten in snacks was equal to that of breakfast at 14%, which was 5% less than the consumption of saturated fat in the same meal. However, these two figures of snacks combined are still much smaller than its proportion of sugar at 42%, holding the highest place in that pie.

In terms of dinner, while sodium and saturated fat accounted for the highest place in their own pies at 43% and 37% respectively, the percentage of added sugar accounted for nearly a quarter of the total. The consumption of sodium and saturated fat in lunch was almost equal at 29% for the former and 26% for the latter, which was greater than 19% of sugar.
