The diagram below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called salmon. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The picture illustrates the schematic representation of the process by which Salmon completes its life cycle.
Overall, it is clear from the diagram that the life cycle is completed in 3 stages. In the beginning, it starts with laying of eggs under small stones present at the base of reeds in moving upper river. Finally, in approximately 5 years’ time they turn into adult salmons swimming freely in open sea. Hence, the life cycle takes about nine and a half years to complete.
Firstly, large Salmon fish lays eggs hidden from predators beneath the stones among the reeds. This process takes approximately 5 to 6 months in slow moving upper river. This is followed by, eggs hatching to release ‘fry’ that are 3 to 8 cm long. These fishes swim and later grow into ‘smolt’ that are 12 to 15 cm in the fast-flowing lower river bank. This process takes approximately 4 years to complete.
Finally, these smolts are washed into open sea, where they mature to become an ‘adult salmon’ of 70 to 76 cm. This stage takes approximately 5 years to occur. Next, the life cycle is repeated again with same stage sequence.
