The diagram below shows the life cycle of the salmon.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevan

From the given illustration, one can understand the different stages of life of salmon right from the hatchery till its demise.

The initial stage is the 'egg' which hatches in about 3 months in freshwater. After hatching, the salmon egg turns into 'Alvein'. As 'Alvein', it survives by eating yolk sac and remains as Alvein for several weeks. Then it moves on to the next phase in which it is called Fry. In this phase, the fry learns to swim and this phase generally lasts as long as it becomes 5 to 10 weeks old.

When several months pass, the fry slowly changes into Parr and develops 'finger' markings. Till then the salmon remains in freshwater and migration to sea takes place only in the upcoming stage in which it is called Smolt. It reaches this level when it is 1 to 3 years old and during this level, several Smolt form a group and move into the sea altogether.

Growing in the marine for the rest of the life, it becomes a full grown adult after living upto 8 years in sea. Then it starts withering away as it gets old and arrives at the final stage of 'Spawning adult' when it spawns and dies in 2 weeks.
