The diagram below shows the production of electricity using a system called Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC).

The diagram illustrates the steps how the electricity being generated by using Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion or OTEC.

In this process, both warm and cold water being used. The temperature on the surface can heat up to 29 degrees Celsius and in the deep watersea can be only 5 degrees Celsius depending on the depth.

the system was using three main components, evacuated evaporation chamber, turbine and condensing chamber. These components led seawater to different stages to become drinking water. Firstly, on the surface, warm water was converted into water vapour by solar energy and enter the first stage of system which was evacuated evaporation chamber. In this process, the water was boiled and separated into salty and unsalted water.

Secondly, the saltless water were evacuated into the turbine. In this level, the unsalted water started to create electricity. The last step was entering condensing room. The cold water in the depth of the ocean would be purified to become drinking water. On the other hand, the remaining waste of salted water went back to the sea to start the process all over again.
