Figures (in thousand) for imprisonment in five countries between 1930 and 1980.
The bar chart provided depicts the evolution of 5 countries during 6 decades in terms of number of imprisonments registered.
Regarding the UK, after its beginning as the safest country of the comparison during the thirties, has undergone a steady increase trend reaching nearly 80,000 prisoners. After liberating 20,00 people in 10 years, Australia has been part of following the same tendency of the British ones, but arriving to 1980 it minored its prisoners nearly to the half.
Attending to New Zealand register, after halving the number of imprisonments in only 10 years, it reacquired an upward trend during the next decades observed.
Canada and the USA share similar development. Being always a t the top of the charts, they have hovered between 90,00 and 130,00 with different drops and rises inconsistently. As well it could be showed that in the last decade, the USA skyrocketed becoming the highest country in the comparison as convicted people referred.
Overall, it can be assessed a growth of imprisonments in each country with different intensity but remarking the leading of the American continent in this aspect.
