The pie charts illustrate the sources of energy consumption in an average house in Australia and the emissions of the greenhouse gases, which result from the aforementioned usages.

Overall, it is clear that whereas heating and water heating consume the highest amount of energy, cooling and lighting are the most energy-efficient. Furthermore, water heating emits the highest amount of CO2, while cooling does so the least.

Looking at the energy uses, heating appliances make up 42% of the total output, and water heating accounts for less than a third. The lowest amount of energy is absorbed by refrigeration, lighting and cooling, with 7%, 4% and 2% respectively.

Turning to the sources of greenhouse gasses, water heating’s percentage is nearly twice as high as heating’s, with the former being at 32% and the latter at 15%. Cooling, at 3%, and lighting, at 8%, are the least responsible for the carbon footprint. Refrigeration makes up roughly the same proportion as heating.
