The graph below shows avarage carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the UK, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.

The line chart illustrates the average CO2 each person produced in 4 countries in EU (the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal) in the period 1967 - 2007.
In the general , it is clear that there was a gradual increase in the amount of CO2 emissions in Italy and Portugal, while the opposite was witnessed in the UK and Sweden. Beside, the emission of carbon dioxide in the UK always stayed at the highest figure, Portuguese produced the lowest carbon dioxide over a period of 40 years.
In 1967, each person in Portugal emitted about 1.6 metric tonnes CO2. This figure increased gradually over the years and hit a peak of approximately 5.7 metric tonnes in 2007. A similar trend happened in Italy, the amount of CO2 started off at around 4.1 metric tonnes, rising moderately and hitting a peak of 7.8 metric tonnes at the end of the period.
In the UK, the amount of emmited CO2 per person began at roughly 10.7 metric tonnes in 1967, decreasing gradually thoughout the years and hitting a lowest point of nearly 9 metric tonnes in 2007. A considerable fluctuation was experienced in Sweden, after hitting the highest point of about 10.5 metric tonnes in 1977 from around 9 metric tonnes in 1967, the figure dropped considerably and finally hit a record low of around 5 metric tonnes in 2007.
