The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.
The line graph illustrates the amount of carbon dioxide emitted per person in four nations namely Britain, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal during a period of 40 years from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, as can be seen from that graph that the average carbon dioxide emissions per person in two countries which are the UK and Sweden witnessed a downward trend. On the contrary, that of Italy and Portugal increased over the period surveyed. Units are measured in metric tonnes.
The UK had the highest amount of CO2 emissions in 1967, at nearly 11 metric tonnes, then the figure declined dramatically to just around 9 metric tonnes in 2007. However, the figure for Sweden saw a small increase of about 3 metric tonnes in 1977 before dropping significantly to just approximately 5,5 metric tonnes in the end.
Meanwhile, Italian citizens emitted around 4 metric tonnes of CO2 per citizen in 1967, followed by above 1,5 metric tonnes of CO2 per person in Portugal. Then the former experienced a great upward trend to stand at nearly 8 metric tonnes in 2007; while the latter was about 3% lower.
