The illustration depicts about the number of people that were imprisoned in five different countries between 1930 and 1980.
Overall, it can be seen that the number of incarcerated criminals in the Great Britain, the United States and New Zealand after five decades increased while in countries like Australia and Canada, the number of outlaws that were locked up decreased.
Apparently, the imprisonment figures in the United States, the Great Britain and New Zealand rose from 1930 to 1980. America started with 100 thousand felons who were jailed in 1930 but this up surged by approximately 20 thousand after 10 years. Although, it fell slightly by 10 to 20 thousand between 1950 and 1970, the number of prisoners in the United Stated peaked at 140 thousand in 1980. Furthermore, the Great Britain which started with only 30 thousand showed an increasing trend until it reached roughly 85 thousand in the last year. In addition, New Zealand has 100 thousand prisoners in 1930, however, it decreased to almost half between 1940 and 1950 but it regained its momentum and rose to almost 90 thousand in 1980.
On the contrary, the three remaining nations showed a decline in the number of people who were confined inside the prison after 50 years. In 1930, Australia has 70 thousand prisoners. Though this figure went up by approximately 30 thousand in 1970, this number plummeted by 30 thousand after 10 years. Meanwhile, Canada has 120 thousand outlaws who were jailed in the start of the period but it reduced by 20 thousand after five decades.
