The bar chart provides information about the percentage of male and female academic staff members across seven faculties of a university in 2012.
Percentage of males outnumbered females in faculties of Arts, and Education except in Business, Engineering, Law and Science faculties. Proportions of males and females were almost equal which accounted 50% each in the faculty of Medicine.
Most interestingly, the highest percentage of male academics was in the faculty of engineering which accounted for 85%. There was only 15% of female academics in this faculty. The highest proportion of female academics which occupied 78% of the staff was from the faculty of education. Faculties of business and science shared the same proportion of females and males and the proportions were 35% and 65% respectively.
Overall, a large discrepancy in the proportions was seen in most of the faculties where the four faculties out of seven were male dominated whereas the faculties based on social sciences had a female dominant academic staff.
