The chart displays the percentage of households bought and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 until 2011. There are nine periods according to the chart; 1918, 1939, 1953, 1961, 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001, and 2011. First of all, it is clear that there is a significant difference among the owned and rented accommodation, up to 50% apart. There was one noticeable exception, however. in 1971, both types of accommodation are measured at the same amount, which is 50%.
Other interesting facts are, before 1971, the percentage of households in rented accommodation are higher than the owned one. Otherwise, situation is reversed after this period. Households rented accommodation reached their peak at the first year (1918) with approximately 78%, meanwhile the owned is only around 23%. In 2001, about 69% is counted as the highest percentage for owned accommodation.
The main thing that can be observed here is that the interest at owned accommodation showed an upward trend, except at the last year, it decreased about 3%.
Opposite to households rented accommodation, it can be seen that the amount are reduced steadily, excluding in the 2011.
