The line graph illustrates the proportion of total expenditure in a certain European country between 1960 and 2000.
Given is the line graph comparing the percentage of spending on five distinct items in a European country during a gap of 40 years, starting in 1960.
It is perceptible that almost every category witnessed a downward trend in spending while the opposite was true for transport.
Standing at the highest point with 34% which ranked first among the five classifications surveyed in 1960, the spending on food declined gradually year by year and at the end of the period, the figure concluded at approximately 14%. The proportion of money spent on leisure ranked second; the figure plunged gradually from nearly 19% to 11% over a period of 40 years.
Similar patterns were evident in clothing and fuel/energy with all two categories having witnessed trends shrinking from 10% to 5% and 6% to 3% respectively from 1960 to 2000. In contrast, transport was the only one to see accretive spending, with its share of under 10% in 1960 amounting to 15% in 2000.
