Essay topics:

The maps below show the center of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The maps illustrate the current status of a small town named Islip and the changes which it is supposed to undergo. Overall, there will be significant constructions of accommodation facilities and other buildings. It is noteworthy that new roads are planned to be built to ensure easier access to those newly built infrastructures.

Currently, there are two long shops running along the main road, with the countryside to the north of the town. The school and the park are also connected to the main road via two small lanes, one to the west and the other on the opposite side, respectively. Two housing areas are also situated in the centre of the two. One of them is located right behind the shops, meanwhile, another lies at the bottom of the map.

In the future, the main road will be replaced by a path specialized for pedestrian use only, and there will be a construction of dual carriageway, instead. The school, the park and the shops near the middle will remain unchanged; but the ones to the north will be demolished to make way for the building of several new buildings including a bus station, a shopping centre and a car park. Accommodation facilities are expected to be added to the town in various locations.
