The pie chart provided explains the main factors that lead to the worldwide land degradation, whereas the table illustrated the negative impacts of these causes on three different regions of the world during the 1990s.

It is apparent from the data supplied that over-grazing, over-cultivation, and deforestation were three main reasons why agriculture land becomes less productive. In addition, Europe had the largest amount of land degraded which is shown by the table.

Analysing the pie chart, it can be easily noticed that the proportions of over-grazing, over-cultivation, and deforestation are quite similar constituting with 38%, 28%, and 30% respectively. In contrary, others reasons just accounted for a minor percentage of 7%.

When it comes to the table, during the 1990s, European land was affected significantly in comparison with two others regions attributing for 23%. To be more precise, there were 9.8% of land degraded by deforestation, 7.7% for over-cultivation and over-grazing contributed the least proportion with 5.5%. Surprisingly, in Oceana, there was no agricultural land had been affected by over-cultivation while over-grazing degraded 11.3% land areas, which was the highest percentage among three regions. During the same period, just 5% of the agricultural area of North America became less productive.
